The Chief Justice, Justice Dr. Flavian Zeija, was this morning ushered into his chambers at the Supreme Court in a ceremony marked by prayer, reflection, and celebration.
The occasion carried profound symbolic weight as the head of the Judiciary took his seat at the nation's highest court, signaling the beginning of a new chapter in the administration of justice.
The occasion, was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana, HW Ayebare Tumwebaze, the Registrar Supreme Court together with his Deputy, HW Akullo Elizabeth Ogwal as well as Judicial and non-judicial staff attached to the Chief Justice's chambers.
Leading the spiritual segment of the ceremony, the Assistant Parish Priest of Lweza Parish, Fr. John Luke Ssebuliba, delivered prayers and blessings, congratulating the Chief Justice upon his elevation to the highest office in the Judiciary. He spoke of the immense responsibility borne by the office, one that calls for wisdom, integrity, and steadfast commitment. The Priest emphasized the indispensable role of divine guidance in navigating its demands. He prayed that the Chief Justice may be granted clarity of mind, strength of character, and grace in the discharge of his duties.
The Permanent Secretary/Secretary to the Judiciary, Dr. Pius Bigirimana, reflecting on a moment of foresight in 2021 when he had expressed confidence that Justice Dr. Zeija would one day rise to the position of Chief Justice, a vision he noted has now gracefully unfolded into reality.
In his remarks, the Chief Justice thanked the Permanent Secretary and the Staff for standing with him at the dawn of this new chapter and assured them of his openness and support in the journey ahead. He also extended gratitude to the clergy for invoking divine guidance as he assumed office, acknowledging the sacred weight of the responsibilities entrusted to him.
The ceremony was moderated by the Private Legal Secretary to the Chief Justice, HW Dr. Alex Mushabe Karocho and concluded on a celebratory note, with a cake-cutting moment.
